Through project based learning, students will create and run a virtual recording studio together. I will assume the role of owner and I will coach them throughout the project, but they will make decisions and fulfill all of the artistic and business roles themselves. All projects will culminate in a real-world presentation/event and students will receive real feedback from audience/expert participants as well as myself.

I have created a 4 class c ycle in which I will embed challenges which will:

-Teach music production skills

-Teach Business and financial Skills

-Teach skills in cooperation/socialization

-Teach English, Math and Writing skills

-teach communication and presentation skills

-teach content creation

-teach music history and appreciation

-teach listening, analysis and discussion skills

-teach real world decision making and negotiating skills

-time management and meeting deadlines

The level of challenge will increase as the classes progress. Students who make it to the end of all 4 classes will have strong knowledge and production skills so that they will be able to take control of their own education and use resources like youtube to continue growing and progressing as both artist and manger of their own career.

The class will meet 2x/week during which the students will work together in groups under my guidance. I will have some materials/instruction whch will comprise a small part of their time, and I will be available during the class with any necessary assistance or a lesson on some aspect of running the studio.. If I see that students are struggling I will respond with a quick direct teaching lesson, all of which will be dictated by the students. I will also be available as a 24 hour email helpline. If a student is having difficulties or is stuck on any facet of the project, I will respond within 24 hours to every email and troubleshoot the issue over chat or zoom if necessary.

Included in the class price is 24/hour tech support. I or my representative will handle any tech related issues and assist with everythng from music software to organizing files.

This will be a gold standard PBL Project, and conform to those guidelines, as well as the NAFME standards for music technology. The PBL Gold Stantdard model, as well the NAFME are online and I will furnish them if you would like to read them for yourselves. I find that Gold Standard PBL is closest “mainstream” pedagogy to unschooling

Suggested ages are 13-18 however I am not basing the cohorts on age, which will be mixed, but rather on their skils and abilities. I aim to challenge every student in whatever capacity they need to make gains in skill and experience.

Students are free but not required to work outside of class. Parents are welcome to be involved at any level they can and wish to. Please contact me through email.

Classes will run for 4 weeks followed by 1 week off and then the next class in the cycle will take place. After class 1, a new cohort will work on class 1 while the first cohort will move on to class 2, etc.

Ultimately this cycle represents a vehicle for students to learn advanced studio and instrumental skills so they would be prepared to work in a real studio or continue their education in the music business in the role that they prefer, artistic or technical or both.

There are no grades in the class. There is feedback from me and other students which will be they type to promote growth and may involve a challenge to do better.

I will be available to furnish/write any narratives/reports/or other requirements to provide evidence of learning for transcripts or portfolios. The music that each student produces can be downloaded and is excellent evidence for student portfolios.

This class should fulfill any music curriculum requirement and if your individual town board says otherwise I will personally contact them and explain.

Homeschool Beats Academy transformed my music skills and understanding. Highly recommend for aspiring young producers!

A group of people are engaged in a music production or DJ session in a dimly lit room. Two individuals are focused on turntables and audio equipment, possibly preparing or playing music. The setting features a backdrop with the SAE Institute logo and several blue storage boxes are visible on a table, suggesting an organized working environment.

The project-based learning approach made music production engaging and fun for my teen. Truly exceptional!
